Ebony

While most woods carved on a lathe produce typical shavings that most would recognize as sawdust, Ebony wood produces a much finer, almost powdery dust. That's because this is the hardest wood from which a duck call can be made, and a little hard to work with, I might add.

But like most things with a downside, Ebony has an upside, which is "gravy" for you—if you purchase it, that is... This extremely hard wood translates into superb volume. Ducks will hear you from miles away.
