Maple

Maple
Maple ... This wood of the genus Acer, and native to the northern hemisphere, is valued for it's lumber and syrup, and as an ornamental shade tree. The wood of the hard maple, as in Arkansas, is light brown, strong and often beautifully grained. It is used for furniture, flooring and musical instruments, such as Snazz duck calls.

My Maple was provided by my friend Buck Skinner, a carpenter and entrepreneur from Augusta, Arkansas. Buck, having an eye for good wood, cut the the Maple I use just south of Augusta. In his free time, Buck has been known to build a few duck blinds. It's mighty hard to find a good duck blind carpenter. I remember a morning 'bout 15 years ago when Buck and I set out early to build some blinds. I asked "where are your boots?" His reply was " I got my chest waders on," pointing to his shirt. I kinda wondered what he was talking about until he waded out into the river with his clothes on. That still makes me chuckle.
