Ironwood

Ironwood ... You've heard of ironwear, ironweed, ironwork, but this is Ironwood. A small North American tree, ostrya-virginiana, having strong, hard wood. My wood comes from Dupree Lake Bottoms, located near the Black Swamp Wildlife Management Area. My friend Lynn Ryan Holler (my webmaster's father) and I, avid duck callers, were discussing this Ironwood tree. We decided to chop some down and experiment with making some duck calls out of them. I have a limited supply of this wood. The wood was so hard, we couldnt chop it with an ax, we had to use a chainsaw. It makes a quite unique duck call. You need one of these esoteric calls for your collection.
